New cucumber genotypes promise higher yields and better fruit quality.
Researchers studied 27 types of cucumbers to see how they vary in traits like fruit size and yield. They found that some genotypes, like NDCC-7 and JPCC-1, are best for high yield. The number of primary branches and fruit length showed the most variation. Fruit length is mostly influenced by genetics, while days to first male flower and number of branches are more stable traits. The number of primary branches is strongly linked to fruit yield.
