Deadly Fungal and Bacterial Diseases Threaten Oil Palm Plantations in Cameroon
The study aimed to identify fungal and bacterial diseases in oil palm plantations in Ndian Division, Cameroon. Researchers surveyed ten plantations and found 10 fungi and 3 bacteria infecting the oil palm. The most common fungus was Fusarium oxysporium, while Bacillus cereus was the most abundant bacterium. Some plant samples had multiple infections, and even asymptomatic plants showed latent infections. This study shows that oil palm in Ndian Division is affected by various fungal and bacterial diseases, with Fusarium oxysporium and Bacillus cereus being the most prevalent.
