Independent Governance Structures Key to Good Governance in Nonprofits
The study looked at how nonprofit organizations are run and found that having an independent governance structure is linked to better governance. By analyzing data from 101 Texas charities, the researchers discovered that good governance is connected to having a separate governing body. They also found that organizations with independent governance focus less on their official strategic plans. To ensure good governance, the legal governing body must address fiduciary stewardship concerns.
