Maize-mungbean intercropping boosts productivity and profits at lower elevations.
The researchers studied how maize grows and produces dry matter in different cropping systems and elevations. They found that maize growth and productivity were highest in 2015, at 1500m elevation, and when intercropped with mungbean. Maize-mungbean intercropping was more productive than other cropping systems. Maize growth and dry matter production were most affected by competition with legumes during specific growth intervals. Lower elevations and intercropping with mungbean are recommended for better maize productivity.
