Community-based health insurance boosts preventive health behaviors in rural Uganda.
Community-based health insurance in rural Uganda can encourage people to adopt preventive health behaviors. A study found that participating in a health insurance scheme increased the likelihood of using mosquito nets, vitamin A and iron supplements, and deworming for children. This positive impact is thought to be linked to sharing information and learning within the health insurance groups. This research sheds light on how health insurance programs can go beyond just financial protection and help improve access to preventive health services in developing countries.
