Deforestation in China's Loess Region Leads to Severe Soil Nutrient Losses
Deforestation in China's hilly loess region affects soil nutrients. Slope shape and position impact soil nutrient distribution after deforestation. Soil samples from different slope shapes were analyzed. Deforestation increased soil nutrient variability. Nutrient levels varied on narrow vs. wide slopes. Longer slopes had more nutrient loss due to erosion. Soil nutrient content decreased with depth, then increased in deeper layers. Slope shape and position are important factors in predicting soil nutrient changes after deforestation in China's hilly loess region.
