Potato farmers boost yields and soil health with water hyacinth mulch
In a study on growing potatoes, different methods of controlling weeds were tested to see their effects on potato yield, nutrient absorption, and soil health. The researchers tried eight ways, including using leaf mulches like eucalyptus and neem leaves, as well as applying Metribuzin herbicide. Among all the methods, using water hyacinth as a mulch at 5 tons per hectare showed the best results. It helped increase potato harvest, nutrient intake by the plants, and improved the overall health of the soil. So, using water hyacinth is a good choice for both productivity and the environment.
