Grassland degradation in India threatens biodiversity and climate stability.
Grasslands are important for providing food for animals, preserving biodiversity, and controlling erosion. However, they are being damaged by overgrazing and urban development, leading to soil loss and climate changes. In India, remote sensing and GIS technology are being used to study and restore degraded grasslands like Banni and Ronda. Intensive grazing and urbanization are the main causes of grassland degradation. To restore them, native plants, rotational grazing, and seeding are being used.
