Seasonal variations in pond ecosystem reveal dynamic nature of aquatic life.
The study looked at the types and amounts of tiny plants (phytoplankton) and animals (zooplankton) in a pond in Tripura, India over two years. They found 19 types of phytoplankton and 17 types of zooplankton in the pond. The most common phytoplankton was Merismopedia sp. and the most common zooplankton was Brachionus angularis. The levels of these organisms changed throughout the year, with the highest amounts in summer and the lowest in monsoon season. Different types of phytoplankton and zooplankton preferred different seasons. The researchers also noted the pond's physical and chemical characteristics. The study suggests that the abundance of these organisms in the pond is influenced by multiple factors and varies with the seasons.
