Tax reform in Taiwan benefits higher-income families, raises equity concerns.
The study looked at how recent tax reforms in Taiwan affected different types of families. They used tax data from 2016 to 2018 and found that while income tax helped make income distribution more equal, the benefits were limited and even decreased slightly. Families with dependents got more relief from exemptions and deductions than those without. However, most benefits from the reforms went to families with higher incomes. The study suggests that removing or limiting certain deductions could help make the tax system fairer and more stable in the long run.
