Cost estimation is important for new manufacturing processes. This paper suggests a generic approach for estimating costs, focusing on credibility and early planning. Guidelines exist for cost estimation steps, but not for model development. By understanding cost estimation principles and modeling, a high-level approach for process cost estimation is proposed. The paper demonstrates this approach in the automotive sector for composites manufacturing.
