Invasive plants devastate native species in Ngorongoro crater, but some grasses thrive alongside them.
Invasive plants Gutenbergia cordifolia and Tagetes minuta have a big impact on native plants in the Ngorongoro crater, Tanzania. The researchers studied how these invaders affect native plant cover and diversity. They found that areas with more invasive plants had fewer native plants and lower diversity. However, some native grasses like Cynodon dactylon and Chloris pycnothrix can still thrive alongside the invaders. This study gives important information for managing the threats posed by these invasive plants and helps us understand how they change the native plant community.
