Client appraisal key to success for microfinance banks in Nigeria.
The study looked at how different credit management strategies affect loan performance in microfinance banks in Nigeria. They found that evaluating clients properly before giving them loans has a positive impact on loan performance. However, the length of time given for repayment doesn't have a significant effect, and having a strict collection policy can actually have a negative impact. The researchers suggest that microfinance banks in Nigeria should focus on thorough client appraisals when giving out loans and that the government should set up a reliable Credit Information Reporting system to help with this process.
