Strong federal values key to successful government systems in eight countries.
The study looked at how people in different countries feel about their government system. They found that citizens who support giving more power to local governments tend to value a federal system more. Switzerland and Canada are seen as the most successful federal systems, while Belgium is not doing as well. In non-federal countries, France shows support for giving more power to local governments, but the United Kingdom is more divided on the issue. The study shows that public attitudes and values play a big role in how well federal systems work and how much people support changes to them.
