Intercropping wheat and faba beans boosts yield and benefits farmers.
The study looked at how growing wheat with faba beans and adding nitrogen fertilizer affects wheat growth and yield. They found that adding nitrogen increased wheat height and leaf size but reduced the amount of light reaching the wheat plants. However, it also increased the amount of light the plants used for photosynthesis, leading to more biomass and higher yields. Intercropping wheat with faba beans also increased growth and yield compared to growing wheat alone. Overall, intercropping wheat with faba beans and using 180 kg/ha of nitrogen fertilizer was the most effective way to increase wheat yield.
