New herbicide combinations increase common bean yield and profits in Ethiopia.
Weeds can harm common bean crops, so a study was done in Ethiopia to see how different herbicides and weeding methods affect weed growth and bean yield. They tested 16 treatments and found that using a low dose of herbicides along with one hand weeding at 5 weeks after emergence gave the best results. This method reduced weed growth and increased bean yield. The highest bean yields were seen in plots where no weeds were present, while plots with lots of weeds had the lowest yields. Using s-metholachlor at 1.0 kg ha-1 with one hand weeding at 5 weeks after emergence gave the most profit.
