Forests' water interception could revolutionize water management worldwide.
Canopy interception is when water gets caught in the forest canopy instead of reaching the ground. A model was created to figure out how much water is lost this way. The model considered two sources of interception and used data from different forests worldwide to validate it. The results showed that the model can estimate interception loss by considering the depth of storage capacity. This model can be used in Malaysia and other places to better understand forest interception.
