Business degrees key to mutual fund success, gender impacts risk behavior.
The study looked at how the education and characteristics of fund managers in Malaysia affect the performance of mutual funds. They used data from fund management companies and found that having a business degree was more important for fund performance than having a Master's degree. They also discovered that fund performance and risk behavior varied between male and female fund managers. The study concluded that factors like expense ratio, turnover ratio, and fund objective were linked to fund performance. It suggested that fund management companies should focus on team-managed funds rather than single-managed funds to improve the efficiency of the funds market in Malaysia.
