Deforestation in the Amazon is a big problem, and even small farmers in rural settlements are contributing to it. A study looked at land use changes in a settlement in the Amazon from 1992 to 2018. They found that a lot of primary forests were lost, mostly turned into pastures. The worst deforestation happened from 2004 to 2018. The study predicts that even more forests will be lost in the future, with over 80% of the area deforested by 2038. This shows that the current way of using land in the settlement is not sustainable, and action is needed to protect the forests.
