Polluted Urban Lake Threatens Nearby Residents' Health and Livelihood
An urban lake called Rawa Besar in Depok, Indonesia is facing pressures from surrounding development. A study looked at its water quality to see if it can be managed for recreation. Physical parameters like TDS, TSS, and Turbidity, and chemicals like Nitrate-N, Phosphate-P, and BOD were tested. Results show the lake is a little polluted; Turbidity, BOD, and TSS levels were found too high in some samples. BOD and Turbidity are highly related. High eutrophication levels were linked to domestic and organic waste in the lake. The study also looked at the spatial distribution of pollutants using GIS tools. Turbidity and BOD levels were alike, especially near the shorelines.
