Early Wheat Sowing Boosts Yields, Profits for Farmers
The researchers wanted to figure out how the timing of planting and different types of wheat plants affect their growth and yield. They conducted an experiment using various planting dates and wheat varieties at a university in India. By observing plant height and yield-related factors like spikelets per ear and grain weight, they discovered that planting wheat early in mid-November led to taller plants and produced a higher grain yield compared to later planting dates. Specifically, the wheat variety called HD 2967 performed best when planted early in mid-November, giving the highest grain yield. This suggests that planting this particular wheat variety early could be a cost-effective choice for farmers.
