Geopotential heights in Nigeria reveal seasonal weather patterns and trends.
The researchers studied the weather in Iseyin, Nigeria, using data from 1979 to 2016. They looked at how the height of the atmosphere changes with temperature, humidity, and pressure. They found that the highest geopotential height was in March, and the lowest was in July. The scale height was highest in March and lowest in August. High geopotential height was seen in the dry season, and low in the rainy season. Geopotential height increased with temperature but decreased with pressure. Humidity had an opposite effect on geopotential and scale heights from May to October.
