The researchers studied twelve white maize inbred lines to find the best hybrids for high grain yield. They crossed these lines in 2017 and tested them in 2018 at a research center in Ethiopia. The highest positive heterosis for grain yield was seen in the cross L10 XT2, showing a significant increase over the best standard check. This means that certain inbred lines have the potential to be used as a source for maize breeding to improve yield.
