The researchers developed a faster method called D3OTSU-CS for segmenting images. They combined the Otsu algorithm with cuckoo search to improve efficiency and stability. By breaking down the original method into smaller parts and using a global search approach, they were able to reduce computation time by 98.6% compared to the original method. The new method also produced more reliable segmentation results, especially for images with low signal to noise ratio.
