Groundwater levels in the Gomti River Basin in India have been decreasing, leading to a reduction in river flows. By analyzing data from groundwater wells and river flow measurements, it was found that excessive groundwater extraction during dry periods has significantly impacted the river's base flow. To restore river flows, it is crucial to regulate groundwater usage and promote a balanced approach of using both surface and groundwater resources. Additionally, enhancing groundwater recharge through water bodies can help maintain ecological flows in the river.
