Improved cropping pattern boosts productivity and profits for farmers in Bangladesh.
The researchers conducted a field experiment in Bangladesh to compare two different cropping patterns. They found that the improved cropping pattern of growing Boro rice, T. Aus rice, T. Aman rice, and Mustard consecutively resulted in higher grain and by-product yields compared to the existing cropping pattern. The improved pattern also led to higher gross returns, gross margins, and benefit-cost ratios, indicating better economic outcomes. Overall, the study suggests that growing these four crops in sequence can increase productivity and profitability for farmers in the Cumilla region.
