Wetland reclamation for aquaculture disrupts soil fungi diversity and structure.
The study looked at how turning coastal wetlands into aquaculture ponds affects the diversity of soil fungi. They studied wetlands in different regions in China and found that the impact on soil fungi diversity varied. After reclamation, some wetlands saw a decrease in fungal diversity, while others saw an increase. The dominant fungi in the soil changed after reclamation, with some types disappearing and others appearing. The composition of soil fungi communities also changed. Environmental factors like soil density, pH, and organic carbon were linked to the abundance of certain fungi.
