Potato farmers boost yields and soil health with water hyacinth mulch
In a study about growing potatoes under different weed management methods, scientists tested the impact of various treatments on potato yield and soil nutrients. Mulching with water hyacinth proved to be the most effective in improving the potato harvest, enhancing nutrient uptake by the plants, and increasing the availability of key nutrients in the soil. This experiment was conducted in a farm during a particular planting season, comparing different approaches like using leaves and herbicides along with the standard recommended fertilizer dose. The results showed that water hyacinth mulch at a specific amount significantly boosted both potato yield and soil nutrients, which is vital for healthy plant growth.
