Deeper Sowing Boosts Faba Bean Yields, Benefiting Farmers Worldwide
Sowing depth and density affect the growth and yield of faba bean plants. A study looked at how planting depth (5cm or 8cm) and density (45, 60, or 75 seeds per square meter) impacted two types of faba bean. Deeper planting led to taller plants, while plant density varied by year. The best seed yield was seen with shallower planting in 2011 and 2012, and deeper planting in 2013. One type of faba bean, Bobas, consistently had higher seed productivity and straw yield compared to Granit. For optimal results, plant density of 75 seeds per square meter is recommended.
