Biodegradable mulch outperforms plastic in controlling weeds and boosting yields.
The researchers tested different types of biodegradable mulch to see how well they controlled weeds and how long they lasted during cucumber production in Mississippi and Louisiana. They found that heavy paper mulch worked best at keeping weeds away, while light paper mulch and no mulch were not as effective. The heavy paper mulch also lasted longer than the light paper mulch. Overall, the heavy paper mulch performed similarly to traditional plastic mulch in terms of cucumber yield.
