Museum records can help us figure out how many different species are in an area. Even though rare species are often seen more in museums than in the wild, we can still estimate how common they are. By comparing museum records with field surveys, we found that the estimates were pretty close. This means we can use museum records to track changes in the numbers of common and rare species over time.
