Intercropping maize with cowpea reduces weeds, boosts yields in new study.
A study was conducted to see how different ways of managing weeds in maize intercropping affected the crops. They found that planting maize with cowpea had fewer weeds and higher yields, while using pendimethalin as a weed control method resulted in even lower weed numbers and higher yields. Maize + pole bean intercropping had the highest maximum economic yield.
