Urbanization in India leads to flooding crises - new model predicts runoff accurately.
The goal of the study was to estimate runoff in a mixed urban area in Pune, India. The researchers found that existing methods underestimated runoff due to rapid urbanization. By modifying coefficients in empirical equations and using a dynamic rainfall-runoff model, they achieved more accurate results. The SWMM model better reflected the area's hydrologic behavior, highlighting the importance of considering detailed catchment characteristics for runoff estimation.
