Bamboo-infused plaster slashes building emissions by 28%
In the study, scientists looked at how using bamboo in building materials can make homes more energy-efficient and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. They tested different mixtures of earth-based mortar with bamboo particles to see how well they insulated against heat and how eco-friendly they were. The mortar with 9% bamboo particles was the best performer, being lighter and slowing down heat loss better than regular mortars. By simulating these materials in a social housing project, they found that using these innovative mortars can decrease greenhouse gas emissions by up to 28%. This research shows that using local, sustainable materials like bamboo in construction can help make buildings more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, even with thin layers of plaster.
