The researchers developed a method to improve the energy efficiency of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) equipped with continuously variable transmission (CVT). By using a genetic algorithm, they optimized the speed ratios of the CVT to reduce energy loss and enhance transmission efficiency. The study found that their approach could increase the economy of PHEVs by 2.2% compared to traditional CVT systems.
