AlphaFold database enables crystal structure determination without sequence information.
Scientists used a new tool called AlphaFold to predict protein structures for E. coli proteins. They tested these predictions to see if they could help identify unknown proteins in crystal structures. By using the predicted structures as a guide, they successfully determined the structures of two unknown proteins, YncE and YadF, even without knowing their sequences. This shows that AlphaFold's predicted structures can be useful for solving crystal structures without needing specific protein sequence information.
