Climate change threatens water resources in Sri Lanka's Kelani River Basin.
The study looked at how climate change affects water availability and low streamflow in the Kelani River Basin in Sri Lanka's wet zone. They focused on the Norwood and Deraniyagala subbasins. By using a climate scenario analysis and a rainfall-runoff model, they found that the model accurately predicted streamflow changes. The elasticity of streamflow to rainfall was 0.75 and 1.00 for the two subbasins, meaning a 1% change in rainfall led to a 0.75% and 1% change in streamflow, respectively. This information can help with future water management plans and policies for low flow conditions in the area.
