New formula accurately predicts sediment transport in steep mountain streams
Sediment transport in steep mountain streams like Rio Cordon is influenced by flow discharge. Equations used to predict bedload rates are more accurate for high sediment transport events than for normal floods. The Bagnold, Smart and Jaeggi, and Rickenmann formulas provide the best estimates for bedload volumes, especially during intense sediment transport. The Schoklitsch equation is also reliable for high sediment intensity conditions.
