C4 Plants Found to Have Higher Chlorophyll Ratios Than C3 Plants
C4 plants have higher ratios of chlorophyll a to chlorophyll b compared to C3 plants. Sugar maize has the highest ratio of chlorophyll a to b and more carotenoids. During aging, C4 plants break down chlorophyll b faster than chlorophyll a, resulting in high chlorophyll a to b ratios.
