Perfectionism Linked to Depression in College Students, Mindfulness and Rumination Mediate the Effect
The study aimed to investigate how thinking too much about evaluations and striving for perfectionism relate to depression in college students. They collected data from 300 students and found that mindfulness and rumination play a role in this relationship. Mindfulness had a negative effect on depression, while rumination had a positive effect. When both mindfulness and rumination were considered together, rumination had a stronger impact. This suggests that reducing rumination may be more effective in alleviating depression caused by evaluative concerns perfectionism. However, the study only focused on college students and did not consider external environmental influences on depression.
