Globalization threatens job security of highly educated workers through service offshoring.
Advances in technology have made it easier for companies to move their services and goods to other countries, a process known as offshoring. A study looked at how this offshoring affects jobs in Belgium. They found that sending goods to other countries can create more jobs for workers with different levels of education in manufacturing, but this effect goes away when companies get bigger. On the other hand, sending services overseas can lead to fewer jobs for highly educated workers in service industries. This shows that globalization can also put the jobs of educated workers at risk.
