Global climate change and biodiversity agendas must be integrated for survival.
The article discusses the need to combine efforts to address climate change and protect biodiversity. Nature-based solutions are seen as a way to help both issues, but there are challenges in implementing them and proving their benefits for biodiversity. The research identifies five key areas where more information is needed to create effective solutions: understanding how climate actions help biodiversity, tracking ecosystems at risk, predicting the impact of climate change on nature-based solutions, matching solutions to the scale of the challenges, and assessing and reducing risks. The upcoming COP26 and COP15 meetings provide an opportunity to create policies that align biodiversity and climate goals, increase funding for conservation, remove harmful financial incentives, improve integration between the two agendas, establish a monitoring system for biodiversity gains, and update environmental laws to better protect nature during climate change.
