High-altitude soil holds key to restoring diverse plant life in Iran
The study looked at the seeds hidden in the soil, known as the soil seed bank, and how they relate to the plants growing above ground in Kashan, Iran. Researchers found that the diversity of seeds in the soil varied with altitude and soil depth. Seeds of annual grass species were more likely to germinate, while perennial plants dominated the surface cover. Perennial plant seeds may need more time in the soil before they can grow.
