Chilean immigration policy fuels exploitation and discrimination of Venezuelan professionals.
The article discusses the challenges faced by professional Venezuelan immigrants in finding work in northern Chile. Interviews with fourteen immigrants revealed that they struggle to validate their degrees, end up in jobs below their qualifications, and face exploitation and discrimination. The main reason for these difficulties is the strict immigration laws in Chile, which prioritize control and security over immigrants' well-being. As a result, the current immigration policies in Chile contribute to the precarious work situations and vulnerability of professional Venezuelan immigrants in the country.
