Historic buildings waste energy on air conditioning, compromising comfort and efficiency.
Historic buildings in Cairo are being adapted for modern use, but energy efficiency and comfort for occupants are challenging to achieve due to strict reuse principles. A study at the Cairo Citadel found that the building wastes energy with its current air conditioning system. The researchers used a Post Occupancy Evaluation to assess the building's thermal comfort. The findings suggest that improvements are needed to balance energy efficiency and comfort in adaptive reuse projects.
