High levels of toxic metals in Nakdong River sediment pose ecological risk.
The study looked at heavy metals in sediment from the Nakdong River in South Korea. They found that most heavy metals were not easily released into the water, but were more concentrated in certain parts of the sediment. Copper was especially high in the organic matter. Manganese contamination was high and likely came from human activities, posing a risk to the river's ecosystem.
