Onuiyieke River in Nigeria Shows Alarming Water Quality Crisis
The researchers assessed the quality of Onuiyieke River in Nigeria by collecting water samples from seven locations and analyzing them for various parameters like suspended solids, metals, and bacteria. They found that levels of pH, turbidity, nitrate, ammonia, iron, and fecal coliforms exceeded safe limits set by environmental agencies. There were differences in water quality between locations and over time. The study identified four main factors affecting water quality and concluded that the overall rating of the river's water quality ranged from excellent to unsuitable. Monitoring and sustainable practices are needed to protect the river.
