The Great Poll Closure" leads to record voter suppression nationwide.
The 2016 election saw a rise in polling place closures after a key voting rights law was changed. This study looks at why polling places were closed, who made the decisions, and who was most affected. By analyzing data from over 2,270 voting areas, the researchers found that certain types of jurisdictions were more likely to close polling places, and certain groups of citizens were most impacted. This research helps us understand why precincts are closed, which areas do it most, and who suffers the most from these closures.
