New process extracts zinc and germanium efficiently from industrial waste.
A new method using ozone and sulfuric acid was tested to extract zinc and germanium from zinc oxide dust. Factors like ozone time, temperature, acidity, and time were studied. The best conditions for leaching were found to be ozone time of 10 min, temperature of 90 ℃, acidity of 160 g/L, time of 60 min, and liquid/solid ratio of 7:1. Under these conditions, zinc and germanium leaching rates were 95.79% and 93.65%, respectively. Ozone leaching was more effective than atmospheric leaching, with higher rates of 4.05% for zinc and 10.49% for germanium. This method can efficiently extract zinc and germanium from zinc oxide dust.
