Over 12,500 caves and pits have been found in the Dinaric Karst of Croatia, with 1200 discovered during construction. Ongoing exploration by speleologists has revealed caves deeper than 1000m and almost 50km long, suggesting major changes in the area's cave system are on the horizon.
